Newspeak is a voice performance artwork comprising of masculine speech with ambient music in the background. This performance was inspired by George Orwell’s book, 1984. I wrote a poem using the unusual words and irregular remarks of Japanese politicians in ‘Newspeak’ vocabulary, which is a fictional language in Orwell’s 1984. This performance piece expresses the power relationship between a language and politics.
